Distribute Column Widths Evenly

The Distribute Column Widths Evenly feature adjusts the width of all columns in your selected table(s) so that they are equal. The total width of the table remains the same, but that width is divided equally among all columns. This creates a uniform column layout.

This tool works seamlessly in Google Docs™, Google Slides™, and Google Sheets™.


Why Distribute Column Widths Evenly?

Sometimes you need a table where every column has exactly the same width, regardless of the content within them. This differs from Adjust Column Width to Content, which sizes columns based on their content. Distributing widths evenly is useful for certain layouts, forms, or when you want a perfectly symmetrical appearance.

How to Distribute Column Widths Evenly

Follow these simple steps to make the column widths in your table(s) uniform:

  1. Select the Table(s) Position your cursor inside the table you wish to modify, or select the entire table explicitly. You can also select several tables.

  2. Access the Add-On Menu Go to the Extensions menu at the top of your Google application. Hover over Text To Table Converter. Hover over Modify Table. Click on Distribute Column Widths Evenly.

  3. View the Adjusted Table The Add-On will process your selected table(s), and the column widths will be adjusted directly within your document, slide, or sheet to be equal.


Your table columns should now have a consistent width, dividing the table’s total width equally among them.
