1. Introduction

Text to Table Converter (“we,” “our,” or “us”) operates the website https://www.texttotableconverter.com and provides the Text to Table Converter Google Workspace™ Add-on and its associated Web App (collectively, the “Service”). The Service provides functionality within Google Docs™, Google Sheets™, Google Slides™, Gmail™, and Google Drive™. This Privacy Policy informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal data when you use our Service and the choices you have associated with that data.

We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data in an open and transparent manner. Text to Table Converter does not sell or share your personal information with any third parties, except as described in this Privacy Policy. This policy is designed to meet the requirements of the California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Text to Table Converter is operated by Hauke Henning Selke. This Privacy Policy applies to all services provided by Text to Table Converter.

1.1 Geographic Restrictions

Our Service is NOT intended for or available to users located in the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and Russia, as stipulated in our Terms of Service. We do not intentionally collect or process Personal Data from individuals in these regions. To enforce this policy, our Service is only made available for installation through the Google Workspace Marketplace™ in specific, permitted countries, which prevents installation by users in these restricted regions. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you are not located in any of these restricted regions.

2. Definitions

For the purposes of this Privacy Policy:

  • Application refers to the Text to Table Converter Google Workspace™ Add-on, which provides features within various Google Workspace™ hosts including Google Docs™, Google Sheets™, Google Slides™, Gmail™, and Google Drive™.
  • Operator (referred to as either “the Operator,” “We,” “Us,” or “Our” in this Privacy Policy) refers to Hauke Henning Selke.
  • Cookies are small files that are placed on Your computer, mobile device, or any other device by a website, containing the details of Your browsing history on that website among its many uses.
  • Device means any device that can access the Service such as a computer, a cellphone, or a digital tablet.
  • Personal Data is any information that relates to an identified or identifiable individual.
  • Service refers to the Application or the Website or both.
  • Service Provider means any natural or legal person who processes the data on behalf of the Operator. It refers to third-party companies or individuals employed by the Operator to facilitate the Service, to provide the Service on behalf of the Operator, to perform services related to the Service, or to assist the Operator in analyzing how the Service is used.
  • Usage Data refers to data collected automatically, either generated by the use of the Service or from the Service infrastructure itself (for example, the duration of a page visit).
  • Website refers to our Text to Table Converter website, including https://www.texttotableconverter.com.
  • You means the individual accessing or using the Service, or the company, or other legal entity on behalf of which such individual is accessing or using the Service, as applicable.
  • AI Interaction occurs when user data is processed by artificial intelligence services. When you use AI-powered features, certain data may be transmitted to external AI models for processing. Our primary AI service provider is Google™, and data is typically processed by the Google™ Generative API (Google Gemini™). However, to ensure service availability and manage high demand, we may route requests through OpenRouter™, a third-party API routing service, which then directs the request to a Google Gemini™ model. This process involves sending user input to the selected AI service, receiving a generated response, and integrating it into the Service. The respective AI service provider (Google™ or OpenRouter™) processes this data according to its own privacy policies and terms of use.

3. Information Collection and Use

We collect several different types of information for various purposes to provide and improve our Service to you.

3.1 Types of Data Collected

Personal Data

While using our Service, we may ask you to provide us with certain personally identifiable information that can be used to contact or identify you (“Personal Data”). Personally identifiable information may include, but is not limited to:

  • Email address
  • First name and last name

Furthermore, when you use features like ‘Extract Content from PDF’, the content of the files you select (from Google Drive™) or upload (from your computer) is processed by the Service. This content may potentially contain Personal Data, depending on the nature of the document.

Usage Data

We may also collect information on how the Service is accessed and used (“Usage Data”). This Usage Data may include information such as your computer’s Internet Protocol address (IP address), browser type, browser version, the pages of our Service that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages, unique device identifiers, and other diagnostic data.

Tracking, Cookies, and Similar Technologies

Your privacy is a priority for us. In line with this commitment, we have designed our website to function without the use of cookies for tracking or analytics. We consciously refrain from using cookies to respect your data.

Instead, we use a standard, more private browser feature called localStorage for a single, functional purpose:

  • Theme Preference: We store your preference for the website’s appearance (e.g., light or dark mode) in your browser’s local storage (using the key starlight-theme). This allows the website to remember your choice on subsequent visits, providing a consistent user experience without needing to track you.

This is a strictly necessary setting for user-requested functionality and does not involve tracking your activity across sites.

You can view and clear your browser’s local storage through your browser’s developer tools or privacy settings. If you do so, the website will simply revert to its default theme on your next visit. This action will not impact your ability to use any of the core features of the Service.

For more general information about the differences between cookies and other storage methods, you can visit www.allaboutcookies.org.

3.2 Use of Data

Text to Table Converter uses the collected data for various purposes:

  • To provide and maintain our Service
  • To process user-provided documents (e.g., PDFs selected from Google Drive™ or uploaded from your device) using AI services (like Google Gemini™ API) to extract content as requested by the user through features such as ‘Extract Content from PDF’.
  • To notify you about changes to our Service
  • To allow you to participate in interactive features of our Service when you choose to do so
  • To provide customer support
  • To gather analysis or valuable information so that we can improve our Service
  • To monitor the usage of our Service
  • To detect, prevent, and address technical issues

If you are from the European Economic Area (EEA), Text to Table Converter’s legal basis for collecting and using the personal information described in this Privacy Policy depends on the Personal Data we collect and the specific context in which we collect it.

Text to Table Converter may process your Personal Data because:

  • We need to perform a contract with you. This includes providing the core functionality of the Text to Table Converter Add-On. However, for Application Data (data processed by the AI-powered features when you use AI interactions), we do not rely on legitimate interest as a legal basis.
  • You have given us permission to do so (Informed Consent). This is specifically relevant for AI interactions, including the processing of content from files you provide for features like ‘Extract Content from PDF’, as detailed in the “User Consent for AI Usage” section.
  • The processing is in our legitimate interests, and it’s not overridden by your rights. This legal basis does NOT apply to Application Data. Examples of legitimate interests include improving our Service, providing customer support, and communicating with you about updates or offers.
  • To comply with a legal obligation.

If you are a resident of California, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) provides you with specific rights regarding your personal information, as detailed in Section 8.2.

5. Retention of Data

Text to Table Converter will retain your Personal Data only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy. We will retain and use your Personal Data to the extent necessary to comply with our legal obligations (for example, if we are required to retain your data to comply with applicable laws), resolve disputes, and enforce our legal agreements and policies.

Please note that we may transfer and process data globally, including in countries such as the United States and member states of the European Union, where Google™ operates data centers.

Text to Table Converter will also retain Usage Data for internal analysis purposes. Usage Data is generally retained for a shorter period of time, except when this data is used to strengthen the security or to improve the functionality of our Service, or we are legally obligated to retain this data for longer time periods.

6. Transfer of Data

Your information, including Personal Data, may be transferred to — and maintained on — computers located outside of your state, province, country, or other governmental jurisdiction where the data protection laws may differ from those of your jurisdiction.

If you choose to provide information to us, please note that we may transfer and process it globally, including in countries that may have different data protection rules than in your country.

Your consent to this Privacy Policy followed by your submission of such information represents your agreement to that transfer.

Text to Table Converter will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy, and no transfer of your Personal Data will take place to an organization or a country unless there are adequate controls in place, including the security of your data and other personal information.

7. Disclosure of Data

Text to Table Converter may disclose your Personal Data in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to:

  • Comply with a legal obligation
  • Protect and defend the rights or property of Text to Table Converter
  • Prevent or investigate possible wrongdoing in connection with the Service
  • Protect the personal safety of users of the Service or the public
  • Protect against legal liability

7.2 Service Providers

We may employ third-party companies and individuals to facilitate our Service (“Service Providers”), to provide the Service on our behalf, to perform Service-related services, or to assist us in analyzing how our Service is used. These third parties have access to your Personal Data only to perform these tasks on our behalf and are obligated not to disclose or use it for any other purpose.

Specifically for AI-powered features, we use the following Service Providers:

  • Google™ (Google Cloud Platform™ and Google Gemini™): Our primary provider for processing AI interactions. All data remains within Google’s™ secure infrastructure.
  • OpenRouter™: A service that provides access to various AI models. We use OpenRouter™ as a fallback provider to ensure the continued operation of our AI features during periods of high traffic. According to their policy and our configuaration, OpenRouter™ does not store the content of prompts or responses by default, though it does store request metadata for billing and analytics. Importantly, when we use OpenRouter™, we explicitly instruct it to process your request using only Google’s™ Gemini™ models. This means that while the request is routed through OpenRouter’s™ servers, the underlying AI processing is still performed by Google™. You can review OpenRouter’s™ privacy policy at https://openrouter.ai/privacy.

8.1 GDPR Data Protection Rights

If you are a resident of the European Economic Area (EEA), you have certain data protection rights. Text to Table Converter aims to take reasonable steps to allow you to correct, amend, delete, or limit the use of your Personal Data.

If you wish to be informed what Personal Data we hold about you and if you want it to be removed from our systems, please contact us at [email protected].

In certain circumstances, you have the following data protection rights:

  • The right to access, update, or delete the information we have on you
  • The right of rectification
  • The right to object
  • The right of restriction
  • The right to data portability
  • The right to withdraw consent

8.2 CCPA (CPRA) Privacy Rights

Under CCPA (CPRA), California residents have the right to:

  • Know what personal information is being collected about them
  • Know whether their personal information is sold or disclosed and to whom
  • Say no to the sale of personal information
  • Access their personal information
  • Request deletion of their personal information
  • Not be discriminated against for exercising their privacy rights

To exercise your rights under CCPA (CPRA), please contact us at [email protected].

9. Children’s Privacy

Our Service does not address anyone under the age of 18 (“Children”). We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from anyone under the age of 18. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your Children have provided us with Personal Data, please contact us. If we become aware that we have collected Personal Data from children without verification of parental consent, we take steps to remove that information from our servers.

10. Google Services including Google User Data

Text to Table Converter integrates with various Google™ services to enhance its functionality and provide a better user experience. By using our Service, you acknowledge and agree to the terms and policies of these Google™ services.

10.1 Google APIs and Services

Text to Table Converter interacts and exchanges data with the following Google™ API and Google™ services:

  • Google Docs™ API
  • Google Slides™ API
  • Google Sheets™ API
  • Google Drive™ API
  • Gmail™ API (for contextual triggers)
  • Google™ Generative Language API
  • Google Apps Script™

By using our Service, you agree to be bound by:

10.2 Other Google Services

Text to Table Converter may use other Google™ services to provide and improve the user experience. For more information on how Google™ handles data, we encourage you to review Google’s™ privacy policy at: https://www.google.com/policies/privacy.

10.3 Data Usage and Retention

Text to Table Converter’s collection, use, and transfer of information received from Google™ APIs comply with the Google™ API Services User Data Policy (https://developers.google.com/terms/api-services-user-data-policy), including its Limited Use requirements.

The Application does not store or retain user data beyond what is strictly necessary for its immediate functionality. Any data processed during use is handled transiently during the active session and is not permanently saved. Specifically for features like ‘Extract Content from PDF’, the content of the PDF file you select or upload is sent to the Google Gemini™ API via Google Cloud Platform™ services for processing. Neither the PDF file itself nor its extracted content is permanently stored by the Application or on our servers after the processing is complete.

We are committed to the principle of data minimization. This means we only collect and process the minimum amount of personal data necessary to provide and improve our Service.

10.4 Google Apps Script and Data Handling

Text to Table Converter uses the Google Apps Script™ service to automate data handling within your Google Workspace™ environment, including Google Docs™, Google Slides™, Google Sheets™, Gmail™, and Drive™. This includes interacting with your documents/sheets/slides directly and facilitating features like ‘Extract Content from PDF’ by processing user-provided files. Google Apps Script™ runs within a secure, sandboxed environment provided by Google™, preventing external access to your data. It’s important to note that:

  • Text to Table Converter runs encapsulated and entirely within Google™ services.
  • None of your documents data is accessed, viewed, or stored by our own servers.
  • All data processing primarily occurs within the Google Workspace™ environment and Google Cloud Platform™ service, ensuring your data remains within Google’s™ secure infrastructure. As an exception, to ensure service reliability, AI-related requests may be routed through our fallback provider, OpenRouter™, as detailed in Section 7.2.

Upon installation, the Text to Table Converter Add-On will ask for and require the following permissions. You express your acceptance of the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy of Text To Table Converter by clicking ‘Allow’ or ‘Continue’ during the installation or authorization process.

Text to Table Converter Add-On permissions

Text to Table Converter Add-On permissions

Text to Table Converter Add-On permissions

Why does Text To Table Converter need these permissions?

  • See, edit, create and delete all your Google Docs documents

    • Explanation: This permission is required to interact with your Google Docs™ files. Our Add-on’s logic is designed to be triggered only by your direct actions within its interface (like clicking a button in the sidebar). It uses this permission for two specific purposes: 1. To read from and write to the Google Doc™ you currently have open and are actively using the Add-on with, and 2. To create a new Google Doc™ in your Drive when you use the ‘Extract Content from PDF’ feature and explicitly choose to save the results. While the permission description is broad, our architecture ensures it is never used to access, modify, or delete any other documents in the background.
  • See, edit, create and delete only the specific Google Drive files that you use with this app

    • Explanation: This permission is used when you interact with files outside of the active document.
      1. PDF Extraction: When you use features like ‘Extract Content from PDF’, our Add-on’s dedicated interface (a secure Web App) will prompt you to select a specific file from your Google Drive™ using the standard Google file picker. The Add-on only gains temporary access to the file(s) you explicitly choose.
      2. Advanced API Usage: It allows the Add-on to use advanced Google™ APIs to perform complex operations requested by you within the active document. This interaction is always initiated by you and is limited to the files you are actively working on.
  • View and manage the Google Slides presentations that this application is installed in

    • Explanation: This allows the Add-On to read content from and insert/modify content (like text and tables) within the specific Google Slides™ presentation you currently have open and are actively using the Add-On with. The scope “installed in” ensures the Add-On only interacts with presentations where you have explicitly enabled it.
  • View and manage spreadsheets that this application has been installed in

    • Explanation: This allows the Add-On to read content from and insert/modify content (like text and tables) within the specific Google Sheets™ spreadsheet you currently have open and are actively using the Add-On with. The scope “installed in” ensures the Add-On only interacts with spreadsheets where you have explicitly enabled it.
  • Run as a Gmail add-on

    • Explanation: This permission allows the Add-on to display its user interface—a self-contained sidebar card—within Gmail™. The Add-on cannot read or access the content of your emails. Its functionality in Gmail™ is limited to the tools provided within that sidebar, such as the ‘Quick Text Tools’. To use these tools, you must manually copy and paste or type text directly into the Add-on’s input fields. This scope is solely for providing a functional user interface.
  • Run as a Calendar add-on

    • Explanation: This permission allows the Add-on to display its sidebar user interface within Google Calendar™. The Add-on cannot read or access your event details. Its function is limited to providing its text and table tools within its self-contained sidebar card, which you can use to format text for pasting into your event descriptions. This scope is solely for providing a functional user interface.
  • Display and run third-party web content in prompts and sidebars inside Google applications

    • Explanation: This is a fundamental permission that allows the Add-On to display its user interface. This includes rendering the side panel in all applications. Without this, you would not be able to see or interact with the Add-on.
  • Connect to an external service

    • Explanation: This permission is required for AI-powered features. When you use tools like ‘Translate’, ‘Fix Grammar’, or ‘Extract Content from PDF’, our Add-on sends the relevant text through a dedicated internal subsystem to the Google™ Generative API (Google Gemini™). This connection only occurs with your explicit consent, and the data is processed within Google’s secure infrastructure.
  • See your primary Google Account email address

    • Explanation: This allows the Add-on to identify your account to manage your settings, which are stored securely within your own Google Account using Google’s PropertiesService. We do not store your email address on our own servers or share it with any third parties.
  • See your personal info, including any personal info you've made publicly available

    • Explanation: This permission allows the Add-on to access basic profile information, such as your name and profile picture, to personalize the user interface. We do not store or share this information.

Connecting to an External Service and AI Interactions

To facilitate AI interactions, the Add-On requires permission to Connect to an external service. Specifically, this involves interactions with the Google™ Generative API (Google Gemini™) via Google Cloud Platform™, which handles AI interactions for features like the ‘Quick Text Tools’ in Gmail™ and Drive™, and powers features like ‘Extract Content from PDF’ by analyzing the content of provided files. While referred to as an “external service,” all data (including uploaded or selected PDF content) remains within the Google Cloud Platform™ environment during processing. Your use of these AI interaction features is also subject to the Gemini™ API Additional Terms of Service. This includes sending text or PDF file content (selected by the user) to Google Gemini™ for processing when using AI features.

Important:

  • Do not enter or process sensitive, confidential, or personal information with the Text to Table Converter when using AI interactions, including the ‘Extract Content from PDF’ feature. This includes, but is not limited to, data such as:
    • Social Security numbers
    • Financial account information
    • Medical records
    • Login credentials
    • Personally Identifiable Information (PII) as defined by relevant regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
  • Do not use AI interactions in a way that violates Google’s™ Generative AI Prohibited Use Policy.
  • When you use AI interactions (including processing PDFs), Google™ may use the content you submit (the PDF content) and the generated output (the extracted text) to provide, improve, and develop Google™ products and services. To help with quality and improvement, human reviewers at Google™ may read, annotate, and process your input and output data. This data is anonymized and separated from your Google™ Account before review.
  • Google™ stores prompts, contextual information, (which may include data derived from your PDF for processing) and the generated output from Grounding with Google Search™ for 30 days.

Text To Table Converter uses AI interactions, such as communicating with the Google™ Generative API (Google Gemini™), to power features like ‘Extract Content from PDF’ and to enhance conversion results.

By default, the Add-on is configured to use these AI services automatically when a relevant feature is activated. You retain full control over this functionality and can change your preference at any time in the Add-on’s settings. The available AI permission options are:

  • Allow (Default) – AI-powered features are enabled and will automatically be used when available to provide and improve the Service.
  • Ask – The Add-on will prompt you for permission before each individual AI interaction.
  • Deny – Blocks all AI interactions and related features. The Add-on will not connect to any AI services.

Your data is only processed by an AI service when you actively use a feature that requires it.
