Google Docs tabs help you organise a large document, but sometimes you need a single continuous file for a handoff, export, or focused version of the work. Merge selected tabs into a new document when the source content already lives inside one Google Doc.
This is different from downloading all tabs as a PDF. A PDF is useful when the document is final; a merged Google Doc is useful when the combined result still needs editing.
Create a New Continuous Document from Tabs
- Open the Google Doc containing the tabs.
- Go to Extensions > Text To Table Converter > Document Tools > Merge Document Tabs.
- Select the tabs to include and arrange their order.
- Create the new document.
- Review the continuous output before sharing or exporting it.
The result combines selected tab content into a new Google Doc. It does not recreate the tab structure in the output, and the source document remains unchanged.
What to Review Afterwards
Check headings, tables, checklists, and spacing. Comments, suggestions, revision history, bookmarks, smart chips, AI summaries, e-signature fields, and table-of-contents elements need separate attention.
If you intend to add a table of contents, do it in the new document after the merge so it reflects the final heading order.
Tabs vs. Separate Documents
- Use Merge Document Tabs when the sections are tabs in one document.
- Use Merge Documents when content is spread across separate Google Docs.
- Use normal download or print choices when you only need a finished PDF.
