Create Quiz from PDF (Google Forms™)

Turn PDF pages into a graded Google Forms™ quiz with AI: grounded questions with source citations, a fully editable review step, and one-click insertion with undo.

Quiz Builder turns the pages of any PDF—a textbook chapter, lecture notes, a study guide—into a graded quiz in Google Forms™. The AI reads only the pages you select and writes questions that are grounded in the source: every question cites the page it came from, together with the exact passage that supports the correct answer, so you can verify everything before it reaches your students.

Google Forms

Google Forms Only

Quiz Builder is available in Google Forms™. Open a form and go to Extensions → Text To Table Converter → Quiz Tools → Create Quiz from PDF...

Step 1: Choose a PDF and Set Up the Quiz

  1. Load a PDF

Click Upload PDF to use a local file, or Choose from Drive to pick one from Google Drive™.

  1. Select pages

Click the page thumbnails you want the quiz to cover—up to 20 pages. Nothing is transmitted at this point; the file is only sent when you generate questions.

  1. Pick a preset, then adjust anything

Start from Quick check (5 easy questions), Lesson quiz (10 balanced questions), or Assessment (15 questions with topic sections). Then fine-tune the mode—Auto-detect, Generate new questions, or Import quiz-style content that already exists in the PDF—plus the grade level (Elementary to Adult), number of questions (1–20), difficulty, and output language (10 languages, so the quiz doesn't have to be in the PDF's language).

  1. Optional: open Advanced

Choose the allowed question types (Multiple choice, Checkboxes, Dropdown, and Short answer with manual grading), set points per question (1–100), group questions into up to 3 topic sections, toggle required questions and answer explanations, or paste your own learning objectives.

  1. Click Generate questions

Step 2: Review Every Question

Nothing is added to your form yet—first, every generated question appears as an editable card:

  • Edit anything: question text, question type, answer choices (2–8 per question), the correct answer(s), points, and required status. Reorder, duplicate, or delete questions freely.
  • Regenerate a single question: the Regenerate, Easier, Harder, and Different concept buttons replace just that one question with a fresh AI pass over the same pages. Regenerate in opposite mode re-runs the whole batch, switching between generating new questions and importing existing ones.
  • Check the source: selecting a question shows the Source evidence panel with a rendered thumbnail of the cited PDF page and the exact quoted passage that supports the answer. Well-grounded questions carry a Source cited badge; anything the builder is less sure about is flagged Needs review.

Always Review AI-Generated Content: The evidence excerpt is selected by AI. Verify it against the page before inserting the questions, and double-check flagged or low-confidence answers.

Step 3: Add the Quiz to Your Form

Click Add selected questions and confirm. The selected questions are created as native Google Forms™ items in one batch:

  • Answer keys, points, and required status are set on each item, and answer explanations become Forms answer feedback.
  • If your form is not a quiz yet, quiz mode is enabled automatically (the confirmation dialog warns you first).
  • Short answer questions are inserted as text items for manual grading, with the explanation attached as general feedback.
  • With topic sections enabled, questions are grouped under section headers.
  • The batch is atomic: if any item fails to create, everything already added is rolled back so your form is never left half-updated.

From the receipt screen you can jump straight into the form with Open Form, start another batch with Create more, or click Undo batch to remove every question and section the batch added—undo stays available for 1 hour after insertion.

Limits

  • PDF files only, up to 20 MB
  • Up to 20 pages per generation
  • 1–20 questions per batch, 1–100 points each
  • 2–8 answer choices per question
  • Undo batch covers the most recent batch and expires after 1 hour

Privacy Note: Only the pages you select leave your browser, and only when you click Generate questions (or regenerate a question). The rest of the PDF is never uploaded.
