Create Charts in Google Sheets™ with Chart Wizard
Select a table, compare explainable chart recommendations, preview the result, and insert a chart into the current sheet or a Charts Dashboard.
Chart Wizard turns a selected Google Sheets™ table into a useful chart without making you choose every chart setting from scratch. It examines the table’s headers, labels, and numeric values, then recommends chart types that fit the shape of the data.
Each recommendation explains why it fits the selected data. Chart Wizard does not use AI, consume AI credits, or send your sheet data to our servers.

Copy the full-year data below and paste it into cell A1. This preview shows the first four rows. The copied values are plain numbers so Google Sheets can recognize them in every locale; format columns B through D as currency after pasting.

Create the chart
- 1Select cells A1:D13, including the header row.
- 2Open Text To Table Converter. Choose Chart Wizard from the Sheets tools on the sidebar home, or choose Extensions > Text To Table Converter > Chart Wizard.

What Chart Wizard recommends for this example
Month is detected as the label column, while Revenue, Expenses, and Profit are detected as numeric series.
- Best fit: a column chart titled “Month comparison” for comparing all three values across the 12 months.
- Alternative: a bar chart for another side-by-side comparison of the same series.
- Composition: a stacked column chart for showing the total and how each series contributes.
- To emphasize movement across the year, choose Line from Customize chart and keep Month as the label column.
Choose only the series you need
For a simpler chart, clear Expenses and Profit under Value columns to chart Revenue by itself.
How recommendations work
- Dates with numeric values favor line charts for change over time.
- Categories with numeric values favor column or bar charts for comparison.
- A small set of positive category values can produce a pie-chart recommendation.
- Numeric pairs can produce a scatter chart, while one numeric column can produce a histogram.
- Every recommendation includes a short reason. You can still choose another compatible chart type.
Selection, limits, and troubleshooting
- If only one cell is selected, Chart Wizard can find the nearby data region and asks before using it.
- The selection must contain at least two populated rows and at least one numeric column.
- A selected range can contain up to 10,000 rows and 50 columns, with up to 10 numeric series in one chart.
- For a very large selection, the preview may use part of the data. The inserted chart still uses the full selected range.
- If the table changes while Chart Wizard is open, select the current table and click Refresh.
- Column, bar, line, pie, scatter, and histogram charts are supported.
Creates new charts
Chart Wizard creates embedded charts from the selected range. Editing an existing chart is not part of the current release.
Your chart is ready
The chart is now embedded in your chosen destination and connected to the selected source range.
- Review the chart title, labels, and legend in the sheet.
- Use Create another in Chart Wizard to visualize a different set of columns.
- Keep related charts together by choosing Charts Dashboard as the destination.
A useful next step
Try charting Revenue by itself, then compare that focused view with the three-series chart.
