Voice Reader
Listen to your text read aloud in Google Docs™ and Slides™ with unlimited audio generations and English voice options only.
Voice Reader is a browser-based text-to-speech tool in the add-on sidebar for Google Docs™ and Google Slides™. Synthesis runs entirely in the browser, so no AI credits are consumed. Voice Reader currently supports English voices only, and each generation supports up to 15,000 characters.

Where to Find It#

Extensions>Text To Table Converter>⚡ Launch Sidebar, then choose Voice Reader under More tools
How to Use#
- Open Voice Reader from the Extensions menu or the sidebar.
- Choose a Voice and set the Speed (0.5× to 2×). Check Remember selected voice to keep your choice for next time.
- Select text in your document, then click Use Current Selection. The text is loaded into the box and starts playing.
- Use the play/pause button and the seek bar that appear above the box to control playback.
- Click Audio to download the speech as a WAV file, or Text to download the text in the box as a TXT file.

Note: - Maximum of 15,000 characters per generation. Longer text is cut off. - Voice Reader uses no AI requests, but AI Permission in Settings must not be set to Deny. - The first time you generate audio, Voice Reader downloads the browser runtime and voice model assets. - Voice Reader currently supports English voices only. - Available in Google Docs™ and Google Slides™ only, not shown in Sheets or Forms. - Experimental (Faster) switches to a WebGPU backend. It needs a compatible browser and GPU and can sound distorted or fail on some systems.
