Extract a Table from a Screenshot or Image into Google Sheets™ or Docs™
The data you need is trapped in a screenshot, photo, or scanned page. Here's how to turn an image of a table into a real, editable table in Google Sheets™, Docs™, or Slides™ — without retyping it.

Two routes: the free Text To Table Converter Add-On converts a selected image into a real table directly inside Docs™, Sheets™, or Slides™ — or use Google Drive's built-in OCR, which extracts the text but leaves you to rebuild the table structure yourself.
Screenshots of tables are everywhere: a pricing grid from a webinar slide, a report page someone photographed, a dashboard you can only capture as an image. The data is right there — just not selectable. Here's how to free it.
Method 1: Selected Image to Table (Add-On, keeps the structure)
The free Text To Table Converter Add-On reads the table *and* its structure straight from an image in your document:
- Insert the screenshot into your Google Docs™, Sheets™, or Slides™ file (
Insert>Image). - Select the image.
- Go to
Extensions>Text To Table Converter>🔣 ➜ 🔡 Selected Image to Table. - The Add-On recognizes the rows and columns in the image and inserts them as a real, editable table.
Sharper images give better results — crop the screenshot to just the table before inserting it, and avoid skewed photos where you can.
Method 2: Google Drive OCR (built-in, text only)
Google Drive can extract text from images for free — but it returns *lines of text*, not a table:
- Upload the image to Google Drive.
- Right-click it and choose
Open with>Google Docs™. - Drive creates a document with the image on top and the recognized text below it.
The text usually keeps values from the same row on the same line, so you can finish the job by converting those lines: select them and run Extensions > Text To Table Converter > 🔤 ➜ 🔡 Selected Text to Table — or paste them into Google Sheets™ and use Data > Split text to columns.
Which method when?
| Situation | Method |
|---|---|
| Clean screenshot of a table | Selected Image to Table (one step) |
| Photo of a printed page | Drive OCR first, then convert the text |
| You only need the text, not a table | Drive OCR |
