Quiz Builder: Create a Quiz from PDF

Turn selected PDF pages into editable, source-grounded Google Forms quiz questions using a review-first workflow.

Quiz Builder is available only in Google Forms. It drafts questions from the PDF pages you choose and does not modify the Form until you review and confirm insertion.

It uses AI, so it needs AI Permission in Settings, and each generate or regenerate counts as one AI request.

Build and review a quiz

  1. 1In Google Forms, click Open Quiz Builder on the Create quiz from PDF card in the sidebar, or choose Extensions > Text To Table Converter > Quiz Tools > Create Quiz from PDF...
  2. 2Upload a PDF or select one from Google Drive. The PDF must be 20 MB or smaller, and the pages you select must also fit within 20 MB. You can use up to 20 pages.
  3. 3Choose a mode: Auto-detect, Generate, or Import existing questions. Then choose a preset (Quick check, Lesson quiz, or Assessment) or set your own options.
  4. 4Generate the draft, then review, edit, remove, or regenerate individual questions.
  5. 5Confirm insertion. If the Form is not a quiz yet, confirming turns on quiz mode.

Options

  • Question count: 1 to 20.
  • Question types: multiple choice, checkboxes, dropdown, and short answer. Short answer questions are graded manually.
  • Grade level, difficulty, language, points (1 to 100), required, and explanations.
  • Topic sections: up to 3.

Where questions are added

Questions are added at the end of the Form. A new section is created only if the Form already has content or you use topic sections.

Undo the last insertion

The sidebar keeps a one-hour undo action for the last inserted Quiz Builder batch. Undo removes the questions and sections created by that batch.
