How to Paste a ChatGPT Table into Google Slides™

Google Slides™ has no Markdown support at all, so ChatGPT tables paste as raw pipe characters. Learn how to turn them into a real presentation table in a few clicks.

Google Slides™ has neither 'Paste from Markdown' nor 'Split text to columns' — there is no built-in way to convert a ChatGPT table. The practical options: convert the pasted text with the Text To Table Converter Add-On, or rebuild the table manually.

Presentations are where AI tables end up most often — a quick comparison, a pricing overview, a project status grid. But paste one into Google Slides™ and you get a text box full of this:

markdown
| Feature | Free | Pro |
|---------|------|-----|
| Storage | 5 GB | 1 TB |
| Support | Email | 24/7 |

Google Docs™ at least has a 'Paste from Markdown' command. Slides™ has nothing — which makes this the app where a converter helps the most.

Method 1: Text To Table Converter Add-On

  1. On your slide, insert a text box and paste the ChatGPT table into it (use right-click > Paste without formatting for the cleanest result).
  2. Select the pasted text.
  3. Go to Extensions > Text To Table Converter > 🔤 ➜ 🔡 Selected Text to Table.
  4. The Add-On inserts a real Slides™ table with the rows and columns from your Markdown, keeping common formatting like bold and italics.

To make it presentation-ready, select the table and apply a preset from Extensions > Text To Table Converter > Table Styles — or fine-tune it with 🎨 Edit & Format Table.

Method 2: Rebuild the table manually

Without an add-on, the only native route is manual:

  1. Count the rows and columns in the ChatGPT answer.
  2. Insert a table via Insert > Table and pick the matching size.
  3. Copy the content of each cell across, one by one.

For a 3×3 table this is bearable. For anything bigger — or for tables you paste every week — it isn't.

Tip: Going through Google Docs™ doesn't help much

You might think of converting the table in Docs™ first (with 'Paste from Markdown') and copying the result into Slides™. Tables copied from Docs™ into Slides™ often lose their structure or paste as plain text, so you frequently end up rebuilding anyway. Converting directly on the slide is the shorter path.
