Turn Any PDF into a Google Forms™ Quiz in Minutes (AI Quiz Generator)
Stop retyping questions from worksheets and readings. The free Text To Table Converter add-on reads your PDF pages and builds a graded Google Forms™ quiz — with answer keys, points, and source citations you can verify before anything touches your form.

The Quiz Builder in the free Text To Table Converter add-on turns selected PDF pages into a ready-to-grade Google Forms™ quiz. It generates questions grounded in your material, lets you review and edit every single question, and then inserts them as native Forms items — answer keys, points, and all.
If you teach or train, your material probably lives in PDFs: worksheets, textbook chapters, lab handouts, onboarding decks exported from who-knows-where. Turning any of that into a Google Forms™ quiz has always meant the same thing — opening the PDF on one screen and retyping questions, options, and answer keys on the other.
The Quiz Builder removes that retyping step. You pick the pages, the AI drafts the questions from them, and you stay in control of what actually lands in your form. A full step-by-step reference lives in our documentation; this post walks through the flow and what it can do.
Step 1: Open the Quiz Builder in Google Forms™
The Quiz Builder runs inside Google Forms™ (that's where your quiz lives, after all):
- Open or create a form at forms.google.com.
- Go to
Extensions>Text To Table Converter>Quiz Tools>Create Quiz from PDF....
If your form isn't a quiz yet, don't worry — the add-on offers to enable quiz mode automatically when it inserts the questions.
Step 2: Pick Your PDF, Pages, and Quiz Setup
Load a PDF from your computer or Google Drive™, then tick the pages the questions should come from — up to 20 pages per run.
On the right, pick a preset or tune everything by hand:
- Quick check - 5 easy questions
- Lesson quiz - 10 balanced questions
- Assessment - 15 questions with topic sections
You can set the grade level (elementary through adult), difficulty, question count (up to 20 per batch), and the output language — the generator writes questions in 10 languages, so a Spanish reading can become a Spanish quiz. Under Advanced you can restrict question types (multiple choice, checkbox, dropdown, short answer), set points per question, add topic sections, and include answer explanations.
Note: The Mode toggle matters more than it looks. Generate writes new questions about the content. Import is for PDFs that already contain quiz questions — it lifts them out instead of inventing new ones. Auto-detect picks for you, and you can flip the whole draft to the opposite mode later with one click.
Step 3: Review Every Question Before It Touches Your Form
Nothing is inserted yet. Every generated question appears as an editable card: change the wording, switch the question type, edit choices, set the correct answer, adjust points.
Two things make this step genuinely trustworthy:
- Per-question regeneration. Don't like question 3? Hit Regenerate, or nudge it with Easier, Harder, or Different concept — without touching the rest of the draft.
- Source evidence. Each question shows which PDF page it came from and quotes the exact passage, with a Source cited badge. If a question can't be traced back to the material, it's flagged for review instead of hiding in the pile.
Step 4: Insert — and Get Native Forms Questions
Click Add selected questions and the add-on inserts real Google Forms™ items: multiple choice with the answer key set, checkboxes, dropdowns, and short-answer text items (those are left for manual grading). Points and required flags carry over, and quiz mode is switched on if it wasn't already.
Changed your mind? Undo batch removes everything the last run inserted — questions and sections — for up to an hour.
Limits Worth Knowing
- PDF files up to 20 MB, up to 20 pages per generation
- Up to 20 questions per batch (run it again for more)
- 2–8 answer choices per question, 1–100 points each
The add-on itself is free to install from the Google Workspace Marketplace.
