Why Google Form Responses Are Not Showing in Your Sheet

If a response appears in the Google Form but not in the linked Sheet, reconnect the form's response destination. Unlink the current spreadsheet from the Responses tab, then select or create the destination again.

This fix is for a form that still shows responses in Forms while the spreadsheet is blank, stops receiving new rows, or opens a new empty tab.

First, Confirm the Response Exists in Forms#

1. Open the form in edit mode.
2. Open the Responses tab.
3. Check that the response count has increased and that the response appears in the summary or individual view.

If the response is not in Forms either, the problem is with the responder link, publishing access, or submission itself—not the spreadsheet connection.

Reconnect the Response Destination#

1. In the form, open Responses.
2. Click the spreadsheet icon or the response-destination menu.
3. Choose Unlink form.
4. Confirm the unlinking prompt.
5. Click the spreadsheet icon again.
6. Choose Create a new spreadsheet or Select existing spreadsheet.
7. Submit one test response and confirm that a new row appears.

If the Existing Spreadsheet Is Blank#

Choose Select existing spreadsheet and pick the file you want to use. Forms may create a new response tab inside that file. Check every tab before assuming the link failed.

If the original spreadsheet refuses the connection or behaves inconsistently, make a copy of the spreadsheet and link the form to the copy. A new response tab is often enough to bypass a damaged or heavily edited destination file.

Protect Formulas and Reports Before Relinking#

Relinking can create a new tab and change the location where raw responses arrive. Before you reconnect:

• Copy important formulas, charts, and pivot tables to a separate reporting tab.
• Note which tab name and columns your formulas reference.
• Do not type formulas or labels into the raw response columns.
• Submit a test response after relinking and check the timestamp, question columns, and row order.

What This Fix Does Not Solve#

Reconnect the destination only when responses exist in Forms. It will not fix:

• A form that is unpublished or restricted to the wrong audience.
• A respondent who could not submit the form.
• A deleted response that you expect Google Forms to remove from an old Sheet row.
• A report formula that points to an old response tab.

For those cases, fix access or submission first, then verify the response destination.

• Confirm the response appears in the form's Responses tab.

• Select or create the spreadsheet again.
• Check every tab in the destination file.
• Keep reporting formulas away from the raw response tab.
• Submit a synthetic test response before sharing the form again.
