Unlock PDF

What is the PDF Unlocker?

The PDF Unlocker removes password protection and owner restrictions from PDF files, restoring full access so you can edit, print, copy, and share the document freely. The process runs entirely in your browser — no file is ever uploaded.

Note: this tool removes owner-level restrictions (editing, printing, copying) and open passwords you already know. It cannot crack an unknown password.

Who Is This Tool For?

• Office workers — remove restrictions from PDFs that were locked by a departed colleague or an unknown process.
• Students and researchers — unlock PDF files you have the right to use but that have restrictions preventing copying or printing.
• Developers — strip PDF security from documents in bulk as part of a document processing pipeline.
• Archivists — remove old owner restrictions from documents being migrated to a new system.
• Anyone — regain full access to a password-protected PDF when you know the password but need to remove it permanently.

Common Use Cases

• You have a PDF that prompts for a password every time you open it — remove the password so it opens freely.
• A print-restricted PDF needs to be printed but the restriction is no longer relevant.
• You received a copy-restricted PDF that you legitimately own and need to extract text from.
• An old archived document has owner restrictions set by a process that no longer exists — remove them to enable editing.
• You want to merge or split a locked PDF but your PDF tools cannot process restricted files.

How to Unlock a PDF

1. Upload your PDF by dragging it onto the tool or clicking to browse.
2. If the PDF has an open password, enter it when prompted.
3. Click Unlock PDF.
4. Download the unlocked version — all restrictions removed.

Your PDF is processed entirely in your browser. It is never uploaded to a server.
