For a simple, text-heavy PDF, upload it to Google Drive and choose Open with > Google Docs. For scans, tables, invoices, or content you need to reuse, use an extraction workflow and review the result before sharing.
PDFs preserve a page; Google Docs is built for editing. A plain letter often converts cleanly, while a report with columns, tables, footnotes, or a scan needs more care.
The Fast Native Method
- Upload the PDF to Google Drive.
- Right-click it and choose Open with > Google Docs.
- Review the text, headings, lists, and images in the new document.
Google leaves the original PDF in Drive, so you can compare the converted copy with the source.
What Usually Needs Fixing
- Tables can become uneven text instead of a usable table.
- Multi-column pages can lose their reading order.
- Scans can produce OCR mistakes.
- Headers, footers, page numbers, and decorative layout may not carry over.
If the information needs to become a table or editable data, start with the structure rather than the page appearance.
Extract the Content You Need in Google Docs
Open the destination Doc, then choose Extensions > Text To Table Converter > PDF & Image Tools > Extract Content from PDF or Image. Load the PDF from Drive or your computer, select the useful pages, and extract the content into the document.
Review the result before publishing it; OCR is a starting point, not a substitute for checking names, numbers, and formatting.
